EIA 2006 Policy Priorities
Ensuring a Robust Landscape for U.S. Innovation & Global Competitiveness
- Work for passage of the innovation measures offered by the bi-partisan group of Senators and Members of Congress, including key elements of the PACE and Ensign-Lieberman legislation, as well as practical proposals in President Bushís American Competitiveness Initiative.
- Support flexible, market-based policies for employment-based visas and access to U.S.-educated knowledge workers.
- Advocate corporate tax reform that promotes business investment and innovation and brings rates in line with other developed nations.
- Ensure the continuation and strengthening of the R&D tax credit.
- Pursue initiatives to provide affordable broadband access to all Americans, and promote reform that ensures telecom/IT regulatory certainty.
- Advocate a tariff-free electronics sector through the World Trade Organization (WTO), and improve worldwide trade compliance and opportunities for U.S. industry.
- Promote debate that fosters a positive U.S-China political and economic relationship.
- Promote meaningful global intellectual property rights protection, increased compliance and strong penalties.
- Ensure a sensible balance between national security and free trade concerns in the development of U.S. export controls.
- Prevent protectionist procurement policies, including domestic content requirements, in the U.S. and among trading partners, and encourage international participation in the WTO Government Procurement Agreement.
- Develop industry consensus on electronics recycling and promote national consistency and a level playing field at the federal level to discourage patchwork state regulation.
- Assist member companies on environmental design restriction compliance.
- Lead efforts to clarify mercury collection and labeling laws.
- Educate policymakers on impact of alternate chemicals and voluntary energy programs.
- Promote Internet Security Alliance-endorsed incentives such as insurance discounts and civil liability benefits to encourage better corporate cyber security.
- Provide industry leadership through the Internet Security Allianceís involvement in the Department of Homeland Securityís National Infrastructure Protection Planís IT Sector Coordinating Council for Cyber Security.
