EIA’s Emissions Monitoring and Accountability Platform (EMAP)
EIA’s Emissions Monitoring and Accountability Platform (EMAP) is an interactive, web-based mapping tool used to visualize and analyze greenhouse gas data, previously reported by large industrial facilities and suppliers to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP).
EMAP is designed to maintain the transparency and interactiveness of the GHGRP’s Facility Level Information on Greenhouse Gases Tool (FLIGHT), while also integrating emissions data from sources other than self-reported data submitted by the industry, such as EIA investigations, to create a more complete picture of the facilities’ climate impact.
FLIGHT is the public facing component of the U.S. regulatory GHGRP, established in 2009, requiring annual greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting from approximately 8,100 of the largest industrial emitters and suppliers of GHGs. The GHGRP requires annual GHG reporting, by March 31, for large industrial facilities and suppliers that emit or supply 25,000 metric tons or more of CO2 equivalent per year. The GHGRP has collected mandatory GHG data since 2010 and typically makes the data available to the public annually by mid-October. EPA did not publish the latest reported data for reporting year 2024; although, the mandatory GHG reporting requirements remain in effect, but EIA is making the 2024 data available on EMAP.
