Tracing Timber in Liberia

EIA has been working with Code4Nature and our Liberian civil society partners LICSATDUN, CS-IFM, and MFGAP to develop and implement a transparent traceability system to track chainsaw-milled timber from community forests to domestic markets in the nation’s capital, Monrovia.

This work shows how simple mobile app technology can bring effective transparency and traceability at a low cost, even in remote and complicated environments. Systems like these are an essential first step towards bringing inclusive forest governance to empower local communities to manage and protect their precious forest resources.
