Illegal Gold Mining in Munduruku Territory 2026 Joint Reports

Leia em português

The Munduruku Indigenous people of Brazil are on the frontlines of the fight to save the Amazon. Three Munduruku organizations – the Wakoborũn Munduruku Women’s Association, the Da’uk Association and the Munduruku Ipereğ Ayũ Movement – with support from EIA, produced a series of territorial monitoring reports (Notas Técnicas) over the course of 2025 and 2026 using geospatial technologies and field monitoring to document invasions of their lands for illegal gold mining and logging. The reports were shared privately with government agencies tasked with protecting the rights and livelihoods of Indigenous peoples, and with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. In light of the lack of response from the Brazilian government, the two most recent reports, prepared jointly by the three Munduruku organizations and EIA in 2026, are being made public.
