EIA Briefing to the 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol 3-7 November 2025
As the international community marks four decades of the Vienna Convention, the achievements made under the treaty and its Montreal Protocol stand as proof that, by following the science and prioritizing the protection of human health and the environment, collective action can successfully respond to global environmental crises.
At this meeting, Parties will be presented with numerous opportunities to rise and meet these challenges. The draft terms of reference for the 2027-29 Multilateral Fund (MLF) replenishment are pivotal in ensuring sustained investment in the future of the Montreal Protocol. Meanwhile, the informal meeting on facilitating implementation of the Montreal Protocol underscores a recognized need to strengthen and modernize the treaty’s institutions. Robust reporting, licensing and quota systems, capacity building, effective monitoring and enforcement, and the active role of the Implementation Committee, must remain central to these deliberations.
